Europe has 16 spots in the 2026 World Cup. 12 of those spots will go to the winners of the 12 qualifying groups. The remaining 4 spots will be decided via play-offs.
Play-off Format
The play-offs involve the 12 group runners-up + 4 best-ranked group winners from the 2024/25 UEFA Nations League who did not finish 1st or 2nd in their qualifying group. These 16 teams will be divided into 4 paths, each path having a semi-final and a final. The winner of each path qualifies.
