The UEFA Champions League (UCL) is the premier club football competition globally, organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The best teams from European leagues compete for the prestigious title of club football champion.

Originally known as the European Champions Cup or European Cup when it started in 1955, the competition was renamed the UEFA Champions League in 1992. Over the years, the tournament has grown in stature and intensity, now featuring more teams than ever. Millions of fans from all over the world watch the matches, which are known for their thrilling gameplay, stunning goals, and unforgettable moments.

Qualifying Rounds – Out of the total spots, 29 teams are already qualified for the competition, with the remaining 7 places decided through qualifying tournaments. Five of these spots are awarded to national champions through a four-round tournament involving 43 to 44 teams, where higher-ranked teams may receive byes. The other two spots are determined through a three-round tournament among 10 to 11 clubs from leagues ranked 5th to 15th. After the qualifying rounds, 36 teams progress to the league stage, followed by knockout rounds, and finally the final match.

League Stage– The new format replaces the traditional group stage with a league phase. Each of the 36 teams plays 8 different opponents, with 4 matches at home and 4 away. Teams earn points in these matches to qualify for the next stage.

Knockout Stage– The top 8 teams from the league stage automatically advance to the Round of 16, while teams ranked 9th to 24th compete in a knockout phase to secure the remaining 8 spots in the Round of 16. These 16 teams then move on to the quarter-finals.

Quarter-finals & Semi-finals– In these rounds, teams continue in a knockout format, playing two-legged ties (one home and one away match). The last two teams standing advance to the final.

Final– The two remaining teams face off in a single match to determine the champion. The Champions League final is one of the most-watched sporting events in the world, where fans celebrate as their favorite teams vie for the ultimate trophy.
