In a thrilling finale to the Bangladesh-New Zealand Test series, the visitors secured a hard-earned victory in the second Test, drawing the series 1-1 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

New Zealand’s pursuit of 137 runs for victory wasn’t without its drama. They found themselves reeling at 69 for six, facing an uphill battle. However, a resilient and unbeaten 70-run partnership between Glenn Phillips (40*) and Mitchell Santner (35*) steered them to a remarkable win.

Phillips proved to be a standout performer for the Kiwis, his invaluable 87-run innings in the first innings setting the stage for their eventual triumph.

Bangladesh, despite the advantage of batting first on a challenging pitch, failed to capitalize, with their batsmen unable to seize control in either innings. This inability to capitalize on their advantageous position cost them dearly.

The fourth day’s Tea break saw New Zealand at 90 for six, still requiring 47 runs to level the series. Wickets fell at crucial intervals, with the dismissal of Kane Williamson standing out. Taijul Islam’s gripping delivery left the veteran batter bamboozled, resulting in a rare stumping for Williamson, contributing 11 runs.

The match witnessed an intense battle, with Shoriful Islam claiming vital breakthroughs and Taijul Islam scalping important wickets. Shoriful Islam’s early dismissal of Devon Conway, trapping him LBW for two, added to the gripping contest.

Ultimately, New Zealand’s persistence and the unwavering partnership between Phillips and Santner secured their victory, ensuring the series ended on level terms at 1-1. The Test served as a testament to the resilience and determination of both sides, delivering an exhilarating conclusion to the cricketing spectacle.
