No Xabi but Bayer Leverkusen remains on the winning streak. They are now equal to Benfica’s 48 games unbeaten record after thrashing Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in the Bundesliga match.

Although Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso was suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards, he watched from the stands and his side continued with the winning streak. The Bundesliga Champions now equals a 59-year-old European record.

The German club shares this feat with Portuguese side Benfica, who hold the record between 1963-65. Now Leverkusen have the chance to hold the record on Thursday when they play against Roma in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final.

Leverkusen’s stars Xhaka, Schick, Palacios, Frimpong and Boniface, all found goals against Eintracht Frankfurt that equal Benfica’s 48-game record. The only goal was scored from Frankfurt by France Forward Hugo Ekitike.

Despite his absence, Xabi Alonso was so happy for another big win.’Our level, our consistency throughout the season is great. We are always concentrating on the work’ Xabi told the reporters after winning the match.

Leverkusen already holds the Bundesliga title this season, breaking Bayern Munich’s 11 years of dominance. They are having a dream time this season.
