The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) one final day to consult with the government and confirm whether the national team will travel to India for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. They won’t relocate Bangladesh’s matches from India.
If Bangladesh maintains its refusal to play in India citing security concerns, the ICC Board has decided to replace them with Scotland, based on team rankings. The decision was taken at an ICC Board meeting on Wednesday, where a majority of directors supported replacement. Pakistan was reportedly the only board to back Bangladesh’s position.

Two Associate Member directors, ICC CEO, ICC deputy chairman and ICC’s general manager were also in attendance. ICC ACU head , who was in Dhaka last week to have in-person meetings with BCB to assuage the security concerns, was part of the meeting too.
The ICC said its decision followed multiple independent security assessments, all of which found no credible threat to Bangladesh players, officials, media, or fans in India. The board also ruled out last-minute schedule or venue changes, warning such moves could set a precedent and undermine future ICC events.
