Lionel Messi and records-two sides of the same coin. The words record and Messi seem incomplete without each other. In fact, Messi and records are always intertwined. From the very beginning of his career, he has repeatedly carved his name in the record books in various ways. Some of the records he has set are unmatched in the history of football.
Throughout his career, Lionel Messi has earned an astonishing number of records, and most recently, he won his eighth Ballon d’Or-an achievement that no other footballer in history has ever achieved. Even his eternal rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, falls behind in this regard, having won the Ballon d’Or six times. But it’s not just the Ballon d’Or where Messi leads; he also holds the record for the most European Golden Boots. He remains the only player in football history to have won the Golden Boot six times. As expected, Cristiano Ronaldo follows him on the list, having won the award four times while playing for Manchester United and Real Madrid.

How the Golden Boot is Decided
The Golden Boot is typically awarded to the highest goal scorer in Europe’s top leagues in a single season. However, the league in which the goals are scored and the level of competition are also taken into account. For example, in Europe’s top five leagues, each goal is worth 2 points. In leagues ranked 6th to 22nd, each goal carries 1.5 points. The player with the most points at the end of the season is honoured with the Golden Boot.
