History has been made. In front of a roaring home crowd at the DY Patil Stadium, India lifted the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, defeating Australia by 23 runs in a thrilling final to claim their first-ever Women’s World Cup title.

After years of heartbreaks and near-misses, the Indian women’s team finally reached the summit, marking a golden chapter in the nation’s cricketing history.

Put in to bat first, India posted a competitive 265 for 7 in 50 overs, thanks to a captain’s knock from Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored a majestic 89 off 97 balls.

Rising star Shafali Verma added a quickfire 54, while Richa Ghosh’s late cameo (32 off 18) powered India past the 260-mark.

Australia, chasing 266, looked steady early on with Alyssa Healy (48) and Beth Mooney (45), but a stunning bowling spell from Deepti Sharma (4 for 36) turned the tide.

Australia were bowled out for 242 in 49.3 overs, handing India a memorable victory. As the final wicket fell, the stadium erupted in joy — tricolors waving, tears of pride flowing.

All-rounder Deepti Sharma was named Player of the Match for her match-winning performance, while Harmanpreet Kaur claimed the Player of the Tournament award for her consistent brilliance throughout the World Cup.

India’s Road to Glory

India’s campaign was a story of determination and dominance. After topping the group stage with six wins out of seven, they defeated England in the semifinals by 5 wickets to set up the dream final against the mighty Australians.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team, saying, “This is a proud day for every Indian. Our women cricketers have inspired the entire nation with their grit and glory.”

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar posted, “They believed, they achieved. What a proud moment for Indian cricket!”

This historic win is being hailed as a turning point for women’s cricket in India. The triumph is expected to boost grassroots participation, sponsorship, and viewership for the women’s game like never before.
